Honorable International Guests and Honorable Chinese Colleagues, ladies and gentlemen:
Good morning!

On behalf of the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, I would like to welcome all the distinguished guests from home and abroad of the 2nd International Conference on Software Engineering and Data Mining and the 3rd International Conference on Information Sciences and Interaction Sciences
It¡¯s a great honor for us to have the opportunity to host the SEDM and ICIS 2010. I would like to thank The International Association for Information, Culture, Human and Industry Technology for choosing the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China to host this conference and express my sincere congratulations to the organization committee for your successfully job and hard work.

Today I am going to share with you of the history of UESTC and our school.

Renowned as China¡¯s cradle for the national electronic industry, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (formerly Chengdu Electronic Information Engineering College) is situated at Chengdu, the city of over a thousand-year-old cultural history in ¡°the land of abundance¡±. In 1956, instructed by Premier Zhou Enlai, UESTC was founded on the basis of the incorporation of electronic divisions of the then three universities including Jiaotong Universities, Nanjing Institute of Technology and South China Institute of Technology. As one of the seven earliest key universities in national defense, UESTC became one of the nation¡¯s key universities in 1960. Then, in 1997 it was included as one of the first universities into ¡°Project 211¡±, a project in China for developing 100 first-class universities and a number of key fields of research for the 21st century. In 2001, UESTC was admitted into the nation¡¯s Project 985, receiving special support for developing world-class universities and world-famous research-oriented universities.

Fifty years¡¯ efforts and cultivations have witnessed the University¡¯s process from sole dependence on electronic information engineering to all-around programs in electronic disciplines, and the University now turns out to be a key multidisciplinary university with electronic science and technology as its core, engineering as its major field and featured the harmonious integration of science, engineering, management and liberal arts, well prepared at the call of the history to come up as a high-level research-oriented university.

The School of Management and Economics of UESTC was established in 1993, and developed from the former Department of Management Engineering established in 1982. The School of Management and Economics has several departments including Department of Business Administration, Department of Economics &Finance, Department of Accounting, Department of E-commerce as well as Research Center of Management Science &Engineering of UESTC, Research Center of Enterprise, Institute of Regional Economy, etc. The school also has modern multimedia room, case study room and finance securities laboratory reflecting security market's changes as well as discipline construction base of management science & engineering and E-commerce Lab which is the provincial key lab of Sichuan Province.

A passel of young and potential academic research team drives scientific research of the school. Since the ninth five plan was started, the school has obtained 1 project of the National Brilliant Youth Scientific Fund of China, over 30 projects of the National Natural Scientific Fund, over 50 ministry and provincial scientific research projects and has taken the Fund of Education for "Century-Spanning Project for Talent Person", the Ministry of Information Industry Fund as well as Huo Yingdong Research Fund with over 700 academic theses published, and 23 national, ministry and provincial scientific and technological achievement awards including the third-place of the National Scientific and Technological Advancement Prize, first-place of the Provincial and Technological Advancement Prize, first-place of the Electronic Ministry Scientific and Technological Advancement Prize. These scientific and research achievements have reached advanced level in China, some of them even have reached advancement level of the world.

Relaying on the disciplinary advantage of UESTC in the field of information science technology, combining the resource strength of UESTC in the information industry, the School of Management and Economics takes the characteristic road of "IT-oriented, emphasizing innovation and entrepreneurship, and initiating a technical MBA program". In MBA Program Accrediting Assessment 2001 China, which is conducted by the National MBA Program Committee, the MBA Program of UESTC was ranked second on all criteria and first in education uniqueness. In August 2002, UESTC became one of the 30 universities initially approved by the Degree Office of the State Council to launch the EMBA program.

Confucius said, ¡°To learn and to practice what is learned time and again is pleasure¡±. Honorable International Guests and Honorable Chinese Colleagues, I hope you to provide your constructive suggestion and advice to the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China so that we can better design the competitive research programs for enhancing Software Engineering and Information Sciences.

I believe, through the efforts of all international society members, the International Conference on SEDM and ICIS has become an important global forum among researchers and application developers from all over the world and will have even greater development in the future!

Finally, wish all of you a pleasant stay in Chengdu! Thank you very much!!
