Mostly, as we go inland from the east coast, the land rises steeply and the rivers are not of great length. In the mountain area to the west of the Danseok chain, the mountains are densely packed, each peak rising from the lower slopes of another. Through this area flows the Dongchang river, a branch of the Nakdong river.
The climate of the western area has marked variations of heat and cold. But the climate of eastern area is fairly warm because it is influenced by the Dongdae mountain chain and the east coast.
