Prof. T. Y. Chen

Dr.Yong Shi

Dr. Shouyang Wang

Dr. Jian Zhang

T. Y. Chen got his BSc and MPhil from The University of Hong Kong, MSc and DIC from the Imperial College, The University of London, and PhD from The University of Melbourne. He is currently holding a Professorship of Software Engineering at Swinburne University of Technology, Australia. He is also the Director of the Centre for Software Analysis and Testing at Swinburne. Prior to joining Swinburne, he has taught at The University of Hong Kong and The University of Melbourne. He is a member of the Editorial Board of Software Testing, Verification & Reliability.

Prof. Chen’s main research interest is on software testing. Some of his major research results on this area include (a) an understanding how the selection of test cases will affect the failure-detection capabilities of partition testing strategies; (b) the development of the technique of adaptive random testing, which is an innovative enhancement of random test case selection strategy; and (c) the development of the technique of metamorphic testing to alleviate the oracle problem.

Title:
Fundamentals of Test Case Selection: Diversity, Diversity, Diversity

Abstract:
Our recent investigations in software testing reveal that diversity constitutes the underlying foundation in many test case selection strategies. This talk attempts to provide an overview of the concept of diversity in test case selection through two families of test case selection strategies, namely, random testing and partition testing. We also present some areas of software testing where the application of data mining techniques shows great potential in identifying key aspects of diversity in various forms.
