WS4: The First International Workshop on Cognition and Decision Making in Construction Engineering Management (COCEM 2009)

Scope/Topic :
Cognition refers to a faculty for the processing of information, applying knowledge, and changing preferences. The significance of cognition research in management science is indicated by the increase in articles on cognition in the major management journals as well as the creation of Managerial and Organizational Cognition Division, in the major professional association of management scholars, The Academy of Management. This increased interest in cognitive phenomena might have been influenced by research in other fields such as psychology, neuroscience, linguistics, computer science, anthropology, and biology.

Topic of Interest
This workshop aims to bring together researchers with an interest in leveraging cognition science for improving judgment and decision in construction engineering management (CEM). Original, substantial, and unpublished submissions on the following topics are invited:

- Theoretical and practical framework for integrating cognition research into CEM
- Cognition modeling
- Managerial and organizational cognition
- Team cognition
- Experience management
- Knowledge transfer
- Information systems
- Emergency management
- Disaster management and resilience
- CEM education

This workshop received financial support from the National Natural Science Foundation of China via the project "Construction Negotiation Analysis Employing Cognitive Mapping Technique"(Award #: 70801023), which is gratefully acknowledged.
